Here are 5th graders who are using different topics for their essays.* Some 5th graders are learning about a few topics for their essays, and they have ideas for each topic. For example, one student plans a trip to Europe, another plans to go on a cruise, and one wants to write an essay about how to help animals.* A student wants to study abroad, so she has an idea about writing an essay about foreign language. She also writes an essay about using her mom's newspaper, but that doesn't work.* Another student is interested in studying how to stay happy and healthy in spite of her child's interests. She also enjoys learning about unique and new ways to spend her money. Her father taught her how to fish.* One student has a passion for reading books, but she also loves to take advanced English classes. She feels th at this advanced class will help her get into Harvard. She also writes an essay about how she manages to get along with her English teacher.* One student enjoys writing essays about her favorite singer, but she is not ready to share it with the rest of the world. So she writes an essay about how she hopes her favorite singer will use her music. This is probably not what her mom wants her to write.Even if there are a few topics on each essay, some students have many more that they would like to write about in different interesting ways. Students often are excited to get to the next step in their writing, so they can take the ideas they have and turn them into essays.The key to writing an interesting essay is to keep your essay interesting and to include all of the important lesson you want to teach. It doesn't matter whether you have five subjects or five thousand subjects, as long as you have something to say.
